Why Awards Matter to Advisors
- They start conversations. A client who read that a city topped a reader poll is already halfway to booking it.
- They shape supplier marketing. Hotels, airlines and tourism boards lean on their honors for months afterward.
- They are uneven. A reader poll, a professional vote and a judged award measure different things. Knowing which is which keeps your advice honest.
- They recognize advisors too. Associations and consortia run travel advisor awards that can strengthen your own credibility.
Three Ways Travel Awards Are Decided
Reader surveys
Magazines ask their readers to rate places, hotels and airlines they have experienced. Condé Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure work this way. Results reflect that readership’s tastes.
Open votes
The World Travel Awards gather votes from travel professionals and, in recent cycles, the public, across regional and world categories.
Judged awards
Panels choose winners from entries, as with the Skift IDEA Awards. Trade awards for advisors often combine nomination and judging.

Turning Award News Into Bookings
Award season gives advisors a reason to call. When the World’s Best list lands, send the three winners your clients would actually enjoy, with a sentence on why. When a resort you sell wins, tell the clients who stayed there. When an advisor award opens for nominations, consider entering.

What are the biggest travel industry awards?
For destinations, hotels and airlines, the best known are the World Travel Awards, the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards and the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards. Inside the trade, publications and associations run awards for suppliers and for advisors themselves.
Are travel awards voted by experts or by travelers?
Both, depending on the program. Condé Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure poll their readers; the World Travel Awards collect votes from travel professionals and, in recent cycles, consumers; trade awards such as the Skift IDEA Awards use judging panels.
